Privacy Policy

Last updated: 21 June 2026

Nurwa is built privacy-first: we show no ads, we never sell your data to third parties, and we collect no more than is needed to make the app work. This policy explains what data we process, why, and what rights you have.

Who is responsible

Nurwa is a trademark of ICTPoint CommV, the data controller, based at De Langhestraat 57, 2800 Mechelen, Belgium (company / VAT number BE 0702.817.755). For any questions about your data, reach us at support@nurwa.app.

What data we process

  • Location. Your geographic coordinates are used to determine prayer times, qibla direction, weather and nearby mosques. Prayer time and qibla calculation happens on your device; for weather, place-name lookup and mosque search your coordinates are sent to external services. We do not link your location to your identity and never use it for advertising.
  • Account data. For family and community features you create an account via email, Google or Apple. We store your email address, display name and a user ID. You can also use the app anonymously; many features work without an account.
  • Content you share. Posts, replies, family and community data, and mosque reports you create are stored to make those features work and visible to the right people.
  • Progress and preferences. Memorisation progress (Hifz), language, text size, theme and preferred mosques. Preferences stay on your device; Hifz progress can sync with your account so you find it across devices.
  • Diagnostics and usage statistics. We use Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics (Google) to understand which features are used and to detect crashes. This covers anonymised events and technical device data. It contains no advertising tracking.
  • Push token. For notifications about community activity we register a push notification token via Firebase Cloud Messaging. You can disable notifications at any time in your device settings.

External services

Nurwa relies on the following external services. Each receives only the data it needs:

  • Google Firebase — account authentication, storage of account and community data (Firestore), crash reporting, usage statistics and push notifications.
  • Open-Meteo — weather forecast based on your coordinates.
  • OpenStreetMap (Nominatim & Overpass) — converting coordinates into a place name, and finding mosques near you.
  • Aladhan — prayer times and Islamic calendar data.
  • Quran.com, verses.quran.com & EveryAyah — Quran text and recitation audio.
  • Google Sign-In & Apple Sign-In — optional sign-in methods.
  • Navigation and sharing apps (Google Maps, Waze, WhatsApp) — only when you tap a navigate or share button yourself.

Legal basis

We process your data based on: your consent (e.g. location and notifications), the performance of our service (account, family and community features), and our legitimate interest in keeping the app stable and usable (diagnostics). You can withdraw consent at any time via your device settings.

How long we keep data

Account data and content you share are kept for as long as your account is active. Local preferences stay on your device until you delete the app. Diagnostic data is kept in aggregated form for a limited time according to Firebase's default settings.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict and port your data, and the right to object to processing. Send your request to support@nurwa.app and we will handle it within the statutory period.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account directly in the app, which erases your account data. To prevent a deleted account from being accidentally recreated, we keep only an irreversible hashed reference of your email address — not the email address itself.

Children

Nurwa is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you are a parent and believe your child has provided us with data, contact us so we can remove it.

Security

Data is transmitted encrypted and stored on Google Firebase's secure infrastructure. Access to family and community data is protected by strict access rules so only the right members can see it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. The date at the top reflects the latest change. We announce significant changes in the app.

Contact and complaints

Questions or complaints about your data? Email support@nurwa.app. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Belgian Data Protection Authority (www.gegevensbeschermingsautoriteit.be).
